Apex Legends Ending Support for Nintendo Switch on August 4
Service Termination on Original Nintendo Switch
Apex Legends will end service for the original Nintendo Switch on August 4. Respawn Entertainment announced via EA's official website that season 29 will be the final update for the Nintendo Switch, with season 30 beginning on August 4 and continuing exclusively on the console's successor, the Nintendo Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 version launched in August 2025 and will remain live.
Progress and Purchases Carry Over
All progress, purchases, and earnings are tied to players’ individual EA accounts. Everything will carry over to the Nintendo Switch 2, regardless of when players purchase the console. The game will continue to be supported on all other platforms.
Reasons for Shifting Support
The development team stated the reason for ending support on the original Switch is to deliver the best possible experience and utilize the power of the Switch 2. “Our goal is to deliver a high-quality experience. Thanks to Nintendo’s investment in the Nintendo Switch 2, the platform offers a great handheld experience for Apex Legends.”
Ongoing Transition from Original Switch
As 2026 marks the first full calendar year with the Nintendo Switch 2 on the market, the transition away from the original Switch continues. Nintendo recently held a dedicated Direct for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, one of the final games designed specifically for the original Nintendo Switch, which will also be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2. Major releases like Super Mario Bros. Wonder are receiving dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 editions with enhanced visuals and new modes. The Switch 2 led the market in hardware sales for December 2025.
