The Passage Serves as Central Hub

The Passage is a Carcosan temple with a vast history to discover and acts as the game’s central hub. Players can speak with other Echelon IV crew members, explore world building elements, and find a mysterious banyan tree. It is also where players upgrade themselves using collected Lucenite and Halycon from eclipse cycles on Carcosa, via the come back stronger mechanics.

Armor Matrix Enables Playstyle Customization

Upgrading occurs through Echelon IV’s Primary unit, a Soltari AI that adjusts the Enforcer Armor via the Armor Matrix. Resources allow upgrades such as increasing maximum armor integrity to withstand more damage, accelerating Lucenite gain per cycle, or expanding armor power capacity for extended shield use. Progression unlocks key additions like the Second Chance system.

World Dial Supports Fast Travel

The Primary unit enables teleportation to any previously unlocked biome, facilitating shorter cycles or direct returns to the last biome start. On death, collected main and power weapons are retained, allowing players to restart with items like a Soltari shotgun or Carcosan weaponry.

Carcosan Modifiers Adjust Challenge Level

Carcosan Modifiers alter the experience with two types: Protection Modifiers reduce challenge by decreasing incoming damage, easing weapon reloads, or extending shield time. Trial Modifiers increase difficulty by making hostiles more aggressive, causing weapon power degradation, or disabling Second Chance. Protection and Trial Modifiers must balance to maintain consistent challenge.

Eclipse Escalation Alters Gameplay and Environment

The eclipse corrupts weapons, artifacts, the world, and minds on Carcosa. Each attempt adds corruption, changing biome properties. In the Blighted Marsh, marsh water activates and burns players during eclipse. Hostiles fire yellow corrupted projectiles that reduce maximum armor integrity unless cleansed with a power weapon. World sound corrupts, with Sam Slater’s music distorting via drone guitars.
